NEW CULTIVARS - DRY PEAS -
REGISTERED IN POLAND IN 1988
"PEGRO". This cultivar brings
together the characters of anthocyanin genotypes and white flowered peas,
e.g. it exhibits higher seed yield but has lower soil requirements.
Therefore, the first letters of the Polish words for fodder peas
(peluszka) and white peas (groch) were used for the cultivar name.
Pegro was bred from cross (Delfin x Neuga) x Paloma. It has a length of
60-65 cm, colored flowers, a seed coat with the Obscuratum trait
and seeds with a TGW of 260 g. Pegro is the earliest anthocyanin variety
in the Polish register and seed yield is 20% higher than the standard
fodder variety.
"HERMES". This cultivar was bred
from cross PSS-5/71 x Paloma. It has a stem length of 70-80 cm, white
flowers, and smooth yellow seeds with good cooking quality and a TGW of
240-250 g. Seed yield is 5% higher than the mean for registered Polish
cultivars.
