Symbol Pmv for plantago mottle virus resistance changed to Plmv

The letters pmv were inadvertently used for two different genes. Provvidenti (1979; J. Hered. 70:350-351) used the symbol Pmv for a dominant gene in pea conferring resistance to plantago mottle virus while Provvidenti (1990; J. Hered. 81:143-145) used pmv for a recessive gene conferring resistance to pea mosaic virus. We have agreed to resolve this situation by resymbolising the gene for plantago mottle virus resistance as Plmv and retaining the symbol pmv for resistance to pea mosaic virus. These symbols are also more descriptive for the virus to which they confer resistance.
